Announcements

Sixth graders and any other youth who are not receiving communion are invited to attend the First Communion Class Tuesday nights at 7:00 p.m. starting this Tuesday, January 8 and continuing for 6 weeks total. Parents are encouraged to attend with their child.

Youth in grades 7 through 12 are invited to attend our January youth event  Monday, January 21. Either meet at church at 6:30 p.m. to carpool or head straight to First Trinity Lutheran Church (across from Barnes and Noble on the Boulevard) at 7:00 p.m. This event is a preview of the 30 Hour Famine. It will be a lot of fun and may help you decide if you want to participate in the Famine February 8-9. We are done at First Trinity at 8:30 p.m. and will return to Grace around 9:00 p.m. Call or e-mail Christi Gaertner with any questions. Sorry, sixth graders, you’ll have to wait until next year to participate in the Famine.

Cottage Bible Study will be held this Thursday, January 10 at 7:00 p.m. at the home of Ruth Kumm.

The 2008 Flower Chart is up in the narthex. Prices are $33.00 for a centerpiece and $45.00 for two vases.

The Gleanings newsletter will no longer be mailed out. Please pick up your copy of the January Gleanings in the chapel.

Thank you to everyone that sent us Christmas greetings. This year our family found people to be so generous with encouraging words and kind gifts. Thank you very much. –From Pastor Gaertner, Christi, Henry and Lucas.

Through you contributions to the mission fund at Grace, we reach out and support different missions locally, nationally, and international. Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center is special mission for the month of January.

What We Learned in Sunday School Today… The visit of the Wise Men, as told in Matthew 2, is the Bible story in Sunday School today. This Bible story teaches us that the Savior came into the world for the salvation of all people. Just as the Wise Men came to Bethlehem to see the Savior and honor Him, so we come to church to see the Savior in His Word and Sacraments. With these gifts, He both honors and blesses us. Discuss how in our sin we are like Herod and do not want to worship Jesus. Talk about the details of the story and see how they compare with “tradition.”
