Sharing God’s Grace: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow

Announcements for the week of January 27, 2008

January 25th, 2008 Posted in News

Share your caring spirit with thousands of others across the world on Souper Bowl Weekend. The youth of Grace are asking you to bring a can of food or a dollar to drop in a soup pot after church on Saturday, Feb. 2 or Sunday, Feb. 3. All donations help people in need feel the power of God’s love and will be donated to a local food bank. You may also choose to sponsor a youth who will be fasting for 30 hours to raise money to fight hunger.

Sunday from 2:30-4:40 p.m. Grace will host the Circuit Forum for the congregations of the Niagara area. This forum will be an opportunity for the people of this area to work together to make a difference in the name of Jesus Christ. You are welcome to come share your ideas and hear from others what is working in their congregations.

Lent comes early this year and we need to start planning for the simple suppers. The first supper will be Wednesday, February 13. If you would like to help with the meals, please contact the church office.

The 2008 Flower Chart is up in the narthex. Prices are $33.00 for a centerpiece and $45.00 for two vases.

The schedule for the 2008 Community Lenten Luncheons at First Presbyterian is posted on the bulletin by the office. Lunches begin at noon each Thursday in Lent and feature delicious food and an inspirational speaker. Pastor Gaertner will be the speaker for February 14. Donation of $5.00 per person includes entrée, sides, dessert and beverage.

The Eastern District is sponsoring a workshop entitled “Front Line Impact” –Connecting people to God by serving God and Guest. This workshop will be held Saturday, February 9, 9-11:00 a.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran in North Tonawanda.  David Hurlbutt, Director of Outreach at Hope, will be leading, as we get a clearer picture of those we are trying to reach in our church and making the people that God brings to the church feel more welcome. RSVP to Diane Will at 634-5111. Walk-in registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Through you contributions to the mission fund at Grace, we reach out and support different missions locally, nationally, and international. Samaritan Pastoral Counseling Center is special mission for the month of January.

What We Learned in Sunday School Today… Today in Sunday School the lesson was about Jesus calling the first disciples as recorded in Matthew 4:12–25. Jesus preached, taught, and healed, and He called His first disciples to do the same. Today, Jesus continues His saving work through the Office of the Ministry, where His Word is preached and His Sacraments are administered. The children learned that Jesus chose ordinary, sinful men to follow Him and be His disciples. In Baptism, Jesus chooses us to be His children. Underscore that in Jesus’ forgiveness we find peace and favor with God, whose Word testifies repeatedly and consistently that Jesus is His Son and our Savior.
