February 15th, 2008 Posted in News

Join us on Wednesdays for a “Simple Supper” at 6:00 p.m. before the Vespers Lenten Worship Service at 7:00 p.m. This week we focus on “The Patient Lamb of God”

Grace 101: Discovering God’s Amazing Plan for You, has started. This class is meant for anyone that wants to join the church or get back to the basics of faith. If you missed the first week it’s not too late. Join us Sunday at 7:00 p.m. Everyone is welcome!

Thank you to all who sponsored the youth for the 30hr Famine. 10 youth from our church raised $622 to fight hunger. They joined with 50 youth from nine area Lutheran churches for 30 hours or fun, service and definite hunger.

YOUTH AND THEIR FRIENDS in grades 6-12 are invited to attend our March youth event at Lasertron on Saturday, March 8 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. Cost is $18 per person and includes 30 minutes of play, 1 slice of pizza, unlimited pop, and 20 tokens. You may use your fundraising money to pay for friends or they may pay for themselves. You need to tell Christi by Monday, March 3 if you want to play. If you decide not to come after the date of March 4, you still have to pay the $18.

Social Ministries Project: For the month of February, we are collecting stuffed animals or characters of any type or size for the Hannah House in Niagara Falls. Hannah House is an organization that helps homeless women and children meet their basic needs. The stuffed toys collected will be used to provide comfort to the many children they deal with.  New and “looks like new” items are welcomed, and should be placed on the table in the narthex.

PENNY WAR: Our Sunday School children are participating in a “Penny War for Missions” for the month of February. They are encouraged to bring pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters to place in their class containers. Pennies are put in their own class containers and earn them points, and silver change is put in other class containers to take away points. The winning class will receive a special treat and will choose the mission to be supported. So let’s get busy!

Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 213 Linwell Road, St. Catharines, invites you to the Service of Light and Evening Prayer, Tuesday, February 19 at 7:00 p.m. Presented by the Concordia Seminary Chorus of St. Louis, the service will feature singing by the Chorus and the congregation. This is a good opportunity to bring along prospective students for the ministry.  For more info contact (905)-646-0713

What We Learned in Sunday School Today…Today in Sunday School, we learn about Jesus teaching the Pharisee Nicodemus under the cover of night (John 3:1–21). Since the fall into sin, all are born spiritually blind, sinful, and unclean. We are like Nicodemus and cannot see our sin or understand who Jesus truly is for us. As children of God, born of water and the Spirit, we can see our sinfulness and the salvation that is ours in Jesus Christ.
