Our Harvest Food Collection will begin next weekend (Columbus Day weekend)! There is a huge need in our community because of the economic crisis being faced by our country. Watch for details about this project, and look for our collection table in the narthex beginning next weekend and continuing until Thanksgiving. Your help is needed!

Youth in grades 7-12 are invited to enjoy the Haunted Hay Ride at Becker Farms and then hang out at a bonfire on Friday, October 17. Meet at church at 5:45 p.m. to carpool up or be at Becker Farms at 6:40 p.m. The cost for this event is $12. We are looking for families to bring the ingredients for s’mores. Youth should bring a flashlight. Adults who just want to hang out at the bonfire will need to pay $5 each.

Niagara Zone Lutheran Women’s Missionary League Fall Rally will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 1135 Oliver St., North Tonawanda, this Saturday, October 11, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with registration. (Cost $5.00) Dr. Joy Stagger-Deberny and Parish Nurse Mary Dries are on the program featuring a wellness theme. Election of officers and delegate/alternate to 2009 National LWML Convention will also take place. An ingathering of supplies for Afghan children (pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens, markers,

notebooks and unlined or lined tablets, along with donations to help defray shipping expenses) will be part of the Rally. Everyone is invited- bring a dish to share for potluck luncheon and a friend or two.

Through you contributions to the mission fund at Grace, we reach out and support different missions locally, nationally, and international. The Joseph Fund is the special mission for October. Their purpose is to provide temporary financial for our brothers and sisters (ordained and rostered pastors and called servants of the LCMS Niagara Circuits) in times of crisis.

St. Paul Lutheran Church and Preschool is hosting two very special seminars this fall. Smart Discipline, Sunday, October 26 from 6-8:00 p.m. and Walk Through the Bible Seminar on Saturday, Nov.1 from 9a.m.-4p.m. For more information, contact St. Paul at 692-3255 or see our church bulletin board.

What We Learned in Sunday School Today… In Sunday School this week students studied “The Fall of Jericho.” We are reminded that God is our mighty fortress who delivers us from the false walls of our sin and saves us in the true Joshua, (Jesus) that we might become and remain His people. Ask students, “What did the people of Jericho think their wall (fortress) would do for them? What does God our Fortress do for us?”

The Lutheran Witness subscriptions are available through the church for $9.25 per year.  If you would like to become a new subscriber or renew your current subscription, please contact the church office by October 26th.
