Announcements for the week of October 25, 2009
October 23rd, 2009 Posted in UncategorizedDeadline for ordering the New Lutheran Study Bible! We will be placing the order for the new Lutheran Study Bible this week. Please have your orders in by Wednesday. If you are looking for a new resource this is an excellent choice. It comes in the English Standard Version (ESV) which is used in the new hymnal and our readings. It is generally easy to understand and offers the best translation from the original languages. This study bible includes explanatory notes from Lutheran scholars. And if your order right now you save about $20 on most versions. Don’t miss this great opportunity.
Friendship Book – Please take a moment to fill out the maroon friendship book found in your pew. This allows us to understand who was able to worship with us and who was missing. Jesus commands his disciples to care for the children of God by seeking those who are missing from our midst (Matthew 18:10ff). Your participation enables us to be the church that Christ encourages us to be.
On Wednesday, November 11, Grace will be hosting Lutheran High Northwest Concert Band from Rochester Hills, Michigan. They will present a 40 minute concert with sacred and traditional music. We need to find housing for approximately 50 students. There is a sign up sheet in the chapel if you can help out with a bed overnight.
Cottage Bible Study starts this Thur., the 29 at 7:00pm at the home of Ruth Kumm. We will continue for six weeks.
Through you contributions to the mission fund at Grace, we reach out and support different missions locally, nationally, and internationally. Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda, NY is the special mission for the month of October.
You may leave your check book at home. Just join us for an informative evening—videos, etc. hosted by Prof. Roger Humann at Grace at 7:00 p.m. this Tuesday, October 27. A time to relax and enjoy the scenery and the sociability, with an introduction to From Windmills to the Alps, with a focus on Oberammergau Passion Play 2010.
What We Learned in Sunday School Today… In Sunday School today, students learned the story of “Naaman and Elisha.” The Word of God spoken by the prophet was in and with the water of the Jordan to restore the flesh of Naaman; the Word of God spoken by the pastor is in and with the water of the baptismal font to cleanse us of our sin and restore us as children of the heavenly Father. Consider discussing, “What was Elisha’s unusual ‘prescription’ for Naaman’s condition? How have you been healed with water?”
Reminder: The time changes this weekend. Remember to turn you clock back on Saturday night!
