Annoucements for the week of December 13, 2009
December 11th, 2009 Posted in UncategorizedThank you for another successful food collection! We restocked our pantry, and took the remaining 20 boxes of food to two food pantries (St. John de LaSalle and St. Leo’s) for distribution over the holidays. These two churches will be assisting over 550 local families this month, so our help was truly appreciated. A big “thank you” to all who helped with the delivery. Job well done everyone!
We welcome and thank Mr. Bob Foerster, Assistant to the President of our Eastern Distict, for being here with us this morning. He is here to help us recognize and celebrate the 50 plus years of teaching Sunday School here at Zion/Grace by Mrs. Helen Stell and Mrs. Gladys Beningo. We also thank the members of Grace for their continued support of our Sunday School program and its staff. Always feel welcome to join us on Sunday mornings -there are classes for Nursery thru adults beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Sunday School Christmas Program “Postcards from Bethlehem” is the name of our Christmas program next Sunday during the 10:30 a.m. worship service. All Sunday School students, staff, and adult choir have a full rehearsal this Saturday, December 19 from 10-12 noon followed by a luncheon for all participants.
Please join the Elders and the Youth as we go caroling to our Shuts Ins next Sunday, December 20, after the Christmas Pageant. Everyone is welcome no matter what your singing voice may be like. “The more, the merrier”.
The Youth Group of Grace are selling discounts cards for area businesses. The cards are only $10 and can be used thru January 2011. There are 23 area businesses that can be used over and over again, so the card literally pays for itself! They make great stocking stuffers. See any Youth or Pastor to get yours.
Through you contributions to the mission fund at Grace, we reach out and support different missions locally, nationally, and internationally. Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gowanda, NY is the special mission for the month of December.
In Sunday School today, the children will hear the message of the angel to Mary, telling her that the promised Savior would be born to her (Luke 1:26–38). God favored Mary because of Jesus Christ, choosing her to be the mother of Jesus. God favors us because of Jesus Christ, choosing us to be His children! In your family discussions, ask your children to tell you the story of the angel’s visit to Mary, pointing out that because of our sin we are separated from God, and we deserve nothing from Him. Encourage your children, reminding them that God grants us unmerited grace and favor because of His Son, who unites Himself with us through His Word and Sacraments.
