March 12th, 2010 Posted in Uncategorized

Today is the last day to purchase flowers for our Easter altar. Order forms can be found on the glass case in the chapel or see Joyce Schultz.

Join us for Simple Supper this Wednesday at 6:00 p.m. before the Lenten Worship at 7:00 p.m. This week’s supper will be hosted by Les Fuerch from Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.

FOR THE SAKE OF THE CHURCH
President Wicher will be “blitzing” the Eastern District, holding meetings to present his vision for the District called “Breaking New Ground for the Mission of Christ.” A member of our Board of Directors will give a 2010 ED Budget report. This meeting will be held today at 3:00 P.M., at First Trinity, Tonawanda NY. All are invited.

SUNDAY SCHOOL PENNY WAR: Our annual Sunday School Mission project will run through March. Students are encouraged to bring change to donate each week, with pennies earning them points, and silver change being used to subtract points from other classes. The “winner” will be announced on Easter. This year’s mission is the “Africa Bikes Project”. Each $150 collected will buy a bike for a Lutheran pastor in Africa to assist him in reaching areas only accessible by dirt paths. By giving a bike, he can go quickly from village to village, spreading the wonderful news of our Savior. The “war” is on! You can track our “warriors” progress on the Sunday School bulletin board!

Through your contributions in the monthly mission envelopes we are able to reach out and support different missions on a local, national and international level. Our mission envelopes for March will be donated to Operation Enduring Comfort, an effort through St. Peter’s at Northridge for local military families while their loved one is away. Dedicated volunteers offer personal help in finding assistance resources and assists in local unit family events. Your donations for this local effort are greatly appreciated.

What We Learned in Sunday School Today… The key point of today’s Sunday School lesson was that, in our sin, we are lost from God and doomed to die, but God, in His love, sought and found us and keeps us with Him forever. The Bible story was about Jesus seeking the lost as recorded by St. Luke (Luke 15). In your family discussions, talk about how God keeps us through the work of the Holy Spirit in the Word and the Sacraments. In the catechism, review the explanation to the Third Article of the Apostles’ Creed. How does this fit with the Bible story?
