Announcements for the week of March 18, 2012

Please join us this Saturday, March 24 at 10:00 a.m. for Spring Cleaning. We need help to do the inside and outside cleaning (weather permitting) to get the church ready for Easter!

THANK YOU!  Our Loose Change Sunday for the Penny War was an incredible success!  Donations left in the pews totaled an amazing $206.55, bringing our current total to $314.90.  Your generosity is overwhelming!  Our Penny War will continue for two more weeks through Palm Sunday, and winners will be announced on Easter Sunday.  We hope to raise $675 and purchase 15 rice ducks for Philippine farmers.  If you wish to make additional donations to our project, you can give your change to any Sunday School student or teacher, or leave it in the Penny War jar on the book nook.  We are at war against the devil and his evil ways of poverty.  Thank you for your help in winning the war!

The Grace Ladies are having lunch on Thursday, March 29, at 12:00 at the Carolyn House 542 6th St. Your reservation must be made and $12.00 paid before Wednesday, March 21. There is a sign up sheet on the glass case or see Gerry Miller or Joyce Schultz if you plan to attend. Everyone will meet at 11:15 in the church parking lot to carpool downtown.

Our Annual Spring Fest will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the American Legion on Buffalo Avenue. We need lots of volunteers to make this event

successful. There is a sign up sheet on the glass case or see Ursula Zimmerman for more information.

Our special mission envelopes for March and April have been designated to help the Magdalene Project of Niagara Falls. This Christian organization, headquartered at St. George’s Church on Falls Street, reaches out to the homeless and poor. Although they serve all who contact them in need, their special focus is on the homeless and abused woman in our city who have resorted to a life of prostitution to support themselves or their children. They offer food, clothing, and the Word of the Lord as they drive through our
streets at night, searching out those in need. They have also started an after school program where young children can feel safe while they learn about Jesus through Bible lessons, crafts, and games. The Magdalene Project is funded through donations and support of the church.

Immanuel Lutheran Church, 107 Scott St. in North Tonawanda is hosting Russ Breault from the History Channel for Shroud Encounter this Tuesday, March 20 at 7:00 pm. Shroud Encounter is a dramatic big screen experience and in-depth exploration into the mysteries of the Shroud of Turin. Using a CSI approach, audiences are taken on a thought provoking adventure through early church history, ancient art, modern science, and medical forensics. Call Immanuel Lutheran Church at 692-6200 for attendance info.
