Announcements for the week of April 15, 2012

We thank Pastor Brese for filling in today for Pastor Sorenson. Our retired Pastor Brese serves as part-time spiritual mentor at the Samaritan Counseling Center.

Our blood pressure clinic, postponed from last week, will be held after church today in the chapel.  Stop and get your blood pressure checked for free by Trish Andrews, a nurse practitioner.

Grace is hosting a Red Cross Blood Drive on Thursday, April 19 from 3-7:00 pm. To make an appointment, please call 1-800-RED-CROSS or visit us at Walk Ins Are Welcome!

There will be a short meeting after the worship service today for our Annual Spring Fest which will be held on Saturday, June 2 at the American Legion on Buffalo Ave. We need lots of volunteers to make this event successful.

VBS–There will be a short meeting after church next Sunday, April 22, for anyone interested in helping with VBS this year.  VBS will be held from July 23 – July 27, 6 – 8 p.m.  We have many opportunities to help for the whole week, or for just an evening or two.  Help is needed in many areas.  If you can’t attend this meeting but are interested in helping, please let Amy Folmsbee know.

Our Sunday School donations for this year’s Penny War totaled $639.62.  Thanks to a last minute anonymous donation, we reached our goal of raising $675, which will allow us to purchase 15 rice ducks through Lutheran World Relief for poor farmers in the Philippines.  All of our classes were very close in donations
this year, with the winning team being the Middle School/High School.  Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!  Your generosity is appreciated!
Our special mission envelopes for March and April have been designated to help the Magdalene Project of Niagara Falls. This Christian organization, headquartered at St. George’s Church on Falls Street, reaches out to the homeless and poor. Although they serve all who contact them in need, their special focus is on the homeless and abused woman in our city who have resorted to a life of prostitution to support themselves or their children. They offer food, clothing, and the Word of the Lord as they drive through our streets at night, searching out those in need. They have also started an after school program where young children can feel safe while they learn about Jesus through Bible lessons, crafts, and games. The Magdalene Project is funded through donations and support of the church.

Lutheran Hour has received a $100,000 Matching Grant that can double your gift of support. Lutheran Hour remains the longest-running Gospel outreach program on radio. Go to to donate today. Thank you for your prayerful consideration.

The flowers on the altar today are given to the Glory of God in loving memory of Carl Reisig in honor his birthday, by his wife Helene.
