Announcements for the week of August 18, 2013

Church Office – Pastor Sorenson will be out of the church office this week. If you are in need of pastoral assistance after office hours please contact Head Usher Mark Andrews at 807-1758.

Sunday School Staff – will have a brief organizational meeting immediately following the 10:30 am service today.

Kingdom Rock VBS –  We had a great VBS week this year, reaching 41 kids ages 3 – 11 with the Gospel message of Jesus’ love.  Check out some of the pictures taken during the week–they show the awesome time we had.  Thank you to the 40 adults who volunteered at least one evening (and many were here all five) during the week!  And thank you to all who donated funds and supplies to help make it happen!  Together we were able to “Stand Strong for God”!

The Magdalene Project – in Niagara Falls has been designated as our August special mission. The Magdalene Project works out on the streets of our inner city, reaching out to homeless women, many of whom have been forced into prostitution, providing  food, basic hygiene items, and reassurance of God’s love for them. The Project also provides an after school program for inner city children who are under supervised or neglected by their parents, providing shelter, snacks and structured activities that keep them off the streets. If you wish to support the Magdalene Project, place your donation in the
special mission envelope during

August. If you’re interested in volunteering to help with the after school program, please speak to Pastor.

Organist Needed – Our organist Lee Travers has officially retired, so we are in need of an organist immediately. Please spread the word and let the church office know of anyone who might be interested in the position.

Social Ministries Project – Social Ministries has set up boxes in the narthex and chapel for our annual collection of socks, underwear, and school supplies.  Local school nurses tell us the need among their children is growing greater each year.  School supply lists are long and present a problem for economically challenged families.  And many children go to school each year without socks and underwear, since these are considered luxuries to families struggling to pay for food and utilities.  All donations will be delivered to children in Niagara Falls in September.

Food for the Poor – Please join us next Sunday to hear the Reverend Gary Bauch speak at both services about a ministry providing direct relief to the poor throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Pastor Bauch will share what he has witnessed about Food For the Poor’s mission to care for the destitute as a means of living out the Gospel mandate to love one another.
