Announcements for 12/16/18

NIAGARA FALLS MEALS ON WHEELS has been designated for our December special mission envelopes.  This is a local program that is not connected to any other “Meals On Wheels” agencies, which means that they are able to offer assistance to those in our city that would otherwise fall through the cracks. Their staff of four minimum wage workers and several volunteers deliver nutritious meals to elderly and disabled that cannot shop or cook for themselves.  If you are able to support their mission, please place your special mission envelope in the offering plate before the end of December.  If you wish to use the convenience envelopes located in the pews, please clearly mark the envelope “December special mission”.

OUR ADVENT GIVING TREES are set up in the narthex and chapel.  We are supporting several local agencies through this project.  If you wish to participate, please take a tag off the trees, purchase the item requested, and return it unwrapped to the tree tables. All items will be distributed in January to our neighbors in need.

THANK YOU for your generous donation of 19 turkeys and 3 hams which will help the Community Mission serve the homeless in our city through the Christmas season.  Your help is greatly appreciated.

HATS AND MITTENS:  In addition to the items listed on our Giving Tree, hats, gloves, and mittens are always needed as we head into the cold winter months ahead.  Many children and homeless adults from our inner city areas lack these items to help keep them warm.

Please note that SUNDAY’S ADULT BIBLE STUDY will not be held on December 23rd and 30th.  The group will gather again starting Sunday,January 6th.

There will be NO SUNDAY SCHOOL class the next two weeks – December 23rd & 30th.  We will have a “Welcome Back Breakfast” at9:00 AM on Sunday, January 6th, followed by our lesson and craft with dismissal at 10:15 AM.

DETERMINING GIFT DATES becomes an important issue as contributors and recipient ministries approach the end of the calendar year. The doctrine of‘Constructive Receipt’ restrains designation as “charitable receipt” those gifts received by December 31.   Mailed gifts use the post-date stamp from the US Postal Service to determine this date. For more information, contact Robert Wirth, LCMS Foundation Gift Planner@ robert.wirth (at) lfnd (dot) org or 716-863-4427.
