Our October Mission of the Month is our local Lutheran Schools: St. John North Tonawanda and Holy Ghost Niagara Falls. Mrs. Katie Gundell and Mr. Kevin Gundell, presidents of the schools respectively, visited last week. They told us that $25,000 in financial aid is given to students each year in order to help families send children to a place where God is known better each day. Grace has received a pledge of a $2000 matching fund to support the schools. Will you help us reach that maximum gift?
SIGN-UP: Today is the final day to show your interest in Grace’s trip to Kentucky to see the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. We are looking for interest only, not a commitment yet. Sign up on the glass case or let the office know.
ONLY TWO WEEKS AWAY! Trunk or Treat is coming soon! Our annual event will be held on Saturday, October 29, from 3 – 4:30 pm. If you are planning to participate or can donate goodies to hand out, please SIGN UP TODAY on the glass case so that we can finish our planning. Your help is needed to make this a successful event for our families, friends, and neighbors.
HARVEST FOOD COLLECTION: We are accepting donations of non-perishable food items on tables located in the narthex and chapel. If you are looking for ideas of what to donate, there are handouts available on the glass case. We partner with St. Vincent de Paul food pantry on Military Road which serves families in the Niagara Falls and Town of Niagara areas. Due to supply chain shortages, they are no longer able to purchase the foods they need in bulk and are experiencing shortages of certain foods. This, along with rising food prices, has resulted in a significant increase in expenses. They are in need of assistance to stock their shelves. This mission project to help our neighbors will continue until Thanksgiving.
TURKEYS & HAMS: We will be accepting donations of turkeys and hams through mid-December. Please consider if you are able to support this project to help the Salvation Army, Community Mission, Lighthouse Women & Children, and the Lord’s Day Dinner provide holiday dinners for our neighbors in need. Your gifts can be stored in the downstairs kitchen freezer. If you need help carrying, please ask an usher for assistance.
BEYOND THE SURFACE Christian education continues this Wednesday, October 19th at 10:00am. This will be in-person only. We will be looking at the following verses: Genesis 4:1-15, 2 Timothy 4:6-8, 16-18 and Luke 18:9-17. Printed copies of the verses are on the shelf outside the office door.
