TODAY is the last day to donate to our October monthly mission in support of Christian education at Holy Ghost and St. John Lutheran Schools. If you are using a convenience envelope from the pews, please clearly indicate what it is for. Thank you for your generosity and care for our children.
Starting next Sunday, NOVEMBER MISSION ENVELOPE donations will be designated for GRACE LUTHERAN CHURCH in Houma, Louisiana (near New Orleans), whose minister, Pastor Rudnik, was a seminary classmate of Pastor Bahr. Grace suffered extensive damage from Hurricane Ida. Windows were broken, a brick wall collapsed, shingles were ripped off, and most of the drywall and insulation was ruined. Numerous pictures of the damage can be viewed on their Facebook page, “Grace Lutheran Church in Houma Louisiana”. They are rebuilding, but it will be a slow process and much help is needed. Your donations during November will be sent directly to Grace in Houma to help with their repair costs.
HARVEST FOOD COLLECTION: We have tables set up in the chapel and narthex to receive donations of non-perishable food items. Your gifts will be used by St. Vincent de Paul food pantry on Military Road to restock after their Thanksgiving distribution to those in need. Although all donations are appreciated, supply chain issues have created a particular need for canned vegetables (especially corn), canned soups, tuna, and Ramen noodles. Our neighbors in need will appreciate your kindness. (Please be sure your donations do not expire before December 2021.)
TURKEYS & HAMS are needed by local soup kitchens for the upcoming holiday dinners they will provide. Donations can be stored in the downstairs kitchen freezer. Please ask an usher for assistance to carry your donation if needed. Last year we donated 27 turkeys and hams, and ALL of them were needed and used by the agencies we partner with.
CHOIR REHEARSALS have resumed. We will meet this Wednesday, November 3, and again on November 17 at 7 PM as we prepare to sing on November 21 (the Sunday before Thanksgiving). New members are welcome. We have a seat saved for you!
THE GLEANINGS submission deadline for the next issue is Tuesday, November 16th.
BEYOND THE SURFACE: Christian education Wednesday, November 3rd at 10:00am. We will be looking at the following verses: Revelation 7: 9-17, 1 John 3: 1-3 and Matthew 5: 1-12.
